Soprano superstar Renée Fleming is a leading advocate for the study of the powerful connections between the arts and health. As Artistic Advisor to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, she launched the first ongoing collaboration between America’s national cultural center and the National Institutes of Health, and she partners with other leading organizations to bring attention to research and practice at the intersection of music, health, and neuroscience.
In her program Music and Mind, already presented in more than fifty cities around the world, Renée invites leading local scientists, physicians, and practitioners to join her, offering illuminating discussions and sharing the latest findings about this growing field with communities where she performs.
A World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador for Arts and Health, Renée is a founding advisor for major initiatives — including the NeuroArts Blueprint, a project of Johns Hopkins University and the Aspen Institute, and the Sound Health Network at the University of California San Francisco. Her work has earned her Research! America’s Rosenfeld Award for Impact on Public Opinion and the World Economic Forum’s Crystal Award.
